Anchoring in Love: An Election Day Meditation for Clarity & Calm

Ah, Election Day. That time of year when emotions run high, relationships hit lows, and we all refresh our news feeds a little too often. For many, this day brings a flurry of opinions, hopes, and maybe even a touch of anxiety. But what if, instead of riding the emotional rollercoaster, we could just…pause? What if, instead of getting swept away by the highs and lows, we could come back to our breath, settle into our heart space, and anchor ourselves in love?

That’s why I’m inviting you to join me for a special gathering on Election Day, Anchoring in Love: An Election Day Meditation + Intention Setting for Clarity & Calm. It’s about choosing peace in a time that often feels anything but peaceful, about reconnecting with our true selves, and about consciously deciding to let love—not fear—be our guide.

Why Love? Why Compassion? Why Now?

Because, honestly, what else do we have when things get intense? Love and compassion are more than just nice words. According to yoga philosophy, they are tools for our own liberation. Patanjali, the author of the Yoga Sutras, teaches us about ahimsa (non-harm) and santosha (contentment), values that ground us in peace and help us respond to life’s challenges with grace instead of reactivity. When we practice non-harm toward ourselves and others, and contentment with what is, we invite calm and connection. These aren’t just lofty ideals; they’re reminders that our power lies in how we choose to show up.

You’ve probably heard Marianne Williamson say, “Love is what we were born with. Fear is what we have learned here.” When we consciously choose to set an intention of love—especially on days like this—we’re creating a ripple effect that touches everyone we come into contact with. Love isn’t just soft and sentimental; it’s a powerful force, a radical choice to show up for ourselves and others with clarity, kindness, and integrity.

The Power of Meditation to Shift Energy

On Election Day, meditation is like a mental spa break. It's a place to breathe, to soften, and to release the tension that often builds up when we’re focused on things beyond our control. According to Ayurveda, our inner state of balance (or imbalance) can be influenced by our surroundings. That’s why meditating on peace and setting positive intentions are especially helpful today. When we meditate together, focusing on love, we cultivate sattva—a quality of harmony, clarity, and calm that strengthens our resilience.

This gathering will be a place where we can embrace the swirling emotions that arise with honesty, acknowledge any fears, and come back to the present. I’ll guide us through a gentle meditation, offering tools to ground ourselves. No, we won’t be fixing the world in 30-60 minutes, but we will create a safe, peaceful, and grounded space for each of us to reconnect with our inner compass.

A Little Humor, A Lot of Heart

If 2024 has taught us anything, it’s that we can’t always control what’s happening outside. However, we can choose to show up with an open heart, find humor in the chaos, and remember to breathe. This isn’t about pretending everything’s perfect. It’s about accepting that while things might feel unpredictable, we have the ability to be steady, to laugh, and to lift each other up.

So, let’s come together, share some peaceful breaths, maybe even laugh a little, and anchor ourselves in love. As we root in our own clarity and calm, we’re actually contributing to a greater peace, offering something much needed to our communities.
